Designed to be used in the field by infantry or other military personnel and built to the strict military standards of MIL-PRF-46374G, the Marathon General Purpose Field Watch is just as liked by a civilian as it is by personnel in uniform. It is a true all purpose watch that will be your reliable companion for years.
The General Purpose Field Watch is made from a highly durable fibershell case with scratch resistant 3mm thick sapphire crystal that is water resistant to 3 atmospheres (30 meters - 100 feet) and will not yield to the elements. The fibershell case of the General Purpose Field Watch also has a passive matte finish. This matte finish aids in protecting infantry positions as this finish does not provide a reflective surface which would occur on a normal metal case. Fibershell is also an extremely lightweight material, an important factor on the battlefield where every ounce counts.
The General Purpose Field watch comes with either a Japanese made dual winding mechanical movement (DWM) or a Swiss made high torque Quartz movement with EOL (End-Of-Life) indicator. Both movements guarantee you accuracy and reliability in timekeeping.
Low light visibility with the mechanical version is provided by self illuminating tritium gas tubes that glow with no need to be charged by an external light source. These tubes are located on the hour and minute hands as well as the hour markers on the dial. Whist the Quartz model also comes in a version which uses MaraGlo photo-luminescent paint to illuminate its hands and dial markers.
Included with the General Purpose Field watch is a one piece nylon military strap which is made in accordance with MIL-S-46383B Type II and provides comfort and durability while remaining lightweight.
Overall assembly of the watch is performed in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland, combining the accuracy and reliability of a Marathon design with reliability and Swiss craftsmanship to bring you a superb watch. The Marathon General Purpose Field Watch is a watch that will provide you with years of accuracy, reliability, and enjoyment!
Re-issue Stainless Steel General Purpose Field Watch
The Marathon General Purpose Field Watch in Steel is a re-interpretation of the historic Marathon GG-W-113 field watch used throughout the 1980s by the US Army. It is built with a case made from 316L surgical grade stainless steel with a satinized graphite grey, non-reflective, finish. The glass lens is made from sapphire crystals to provide ultimate scratch resistance, overall durability, and clarity of dial viewing, all essential factors for military personnel.
To assist in low light viewing, the dial uses tritium tubes for the hour indices as well as hour and minute hands. Tritium is a self-illuminating gas which will provide a 24/7 glow without the need for recharging.
The Marathon General Purpose Field Watch in Steel features a wind-up ETA 2801 movement or a high torque ETA Quartz F06 movement for accurate and reliable timekeeping.
It is a tough yet beautiful watch - packing features essential for military operations, such as a 24-hour dial, nylon strap, drilled lugs, hacking seconds and much more.
