The Red Maple Anthracite GSAR celebrates Canada Day (Canada's birthday) and is a limited-edition timepiece that tells a captivating story of history, service, and pride.
Many years ago, Marathon embarked on a journey to create something truly special for the Canadian Department of Defence inspired by Canada’s 140th year of confederation. The result was the Red Maple GSAR, a limited-edition masterpiece that captured the hearts of watch enthusiasts worldwide. It quickly became a sell-out success, leaving a mark on the horological landscape.
However, during a recent examination of Marathon's NOS (New Old Stock) in their factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, they made an astonishing discovery - a number of blank Red Maple dials, preserved and untouched. They just knew they had to use them for something special.
These preserved dials have now been reincarnated into the Red Maple Anthracite GSAR. A limited quantity of only 72 watches have been created, ensuring their exclusivity and rarity. This will be the last time Marathon uses these precious Red Maple dials, as such, it is guaranteed that this release will forever remain unique and irreplaceable.
The original Red Maple GSAR featured a distinctive reflective red foil maple leaf applique. These 72 timepieces will be the final embodiment of that design choice, making them a true collector's item. Featuring a new case back inscribed with the Canadian Army motto “Vigilamus Pro Te” meaning “We Stand on Guard for Thee,” this timepiece stands as a symbol of Canadian heritage and pride. The Red Maple Anthracite GSAR is a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship and unwavering dedication to excellence that the Marathon Watch Company stands for.
And as part of Marathon's commitment to support communities in need, 5% of all sales will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross to provide aid for the Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada Wildfires.
It is water resistant down to 30 ATM - 300 meters (1000 feet) underwater. Built from 316L surgical grade stainless steel, the watch is a high quality, purpose built watch that will reliably accompany you wherever you take it. The rugged case, with solid flared crown guards, has been completely sand blasted then treated with a full black anodized treatment which is three times harder than stainless steel, giving it a striking stealth-like appearance.
The matte black dial shows both 12-hour and military style 24-hour time with a date window at the 4:30 position. The dial is protected with a scratch resistant flat sapphire glass crystal with an anti reflective coating to ensure that the dial can be easily read even under direct sunlight or deep underwater.
The extra thick 120-click uni-directional bezel features large grooves which enable it to be rotated under all conditions - even when wearing gloves underwater. Whilst the black anodized bezel insert is engraved with white 60-minute markings for clear visibility and has a MaraGlo luminous triangle pip at the 12 o’clock position. The deeply knurled screw-down crown is also adjustable with wet hands or when wearing gloves.
The Marathon GSAR Search and Rescue Dive Watch is handmade in La Chaux de Fonds Switzerland to guarantee the highest level of quality and accuracy in manufacturing. The watch is powered by a 26 jewel Swiss made Marathon M2 automatic movement made by Sellita, guaranteeing a very reliable and accurate timekeeping experience.
The GSAR uses self contained Tritium gas tubes to ensure constant visibility in low light situations. A gas tube is placed on each hour marker and each syringe-style hand. MaraGlo luminescence is used for the 12 hour bezel marker. Tritium tubes are self illuminating gas tubes which contain an isotope of hydrogen, meaning they will not dull down in brightness like normal photo-luminescent paint which requires an external light source to create a glow.
The watch comes with a high quality and extremely comfortable vulcanized rubber strap with the Marathon emblem etched into one of the keepers.
The Marathon GSAR Search & Rescue Dive Watch combines Military toughness with Swiss craftsmanship in a watch that will get the job done, and look good doing it.
